The Education Select Committee has asked for written evidence about the purpose and quality of education. It wants to know: •What the purpose of education for children of all ages in England should be •What measures should be used to evaluate the quality of education against this purpose •How well the current education system performs against these measures. The Committee has also set up an online forum for less formal submissions which request views on the following: •How much of a focus should there be on preparing young people for employment through focusing on skills such as numeracy and literacy? •What role should the education system play in developing 'soft' skills, such as leadership and communication? •How much should education prepare people for adult life in terms of areas such as healthy relationships and personal finance? Or you could join in via twitter #EduPurpose. If you want to submit formal evidence, read the guidance first. The deadline is Monday 25 January 2016.

Thanks, Leah, for the link. I scrolled down your link and found out who said some of the things I'd scribbled down and used in my second post about the Summit which became a little confused because I couldn't work out from my post-lunch notes who'd said what.

That's great Janet. Can't believe we didn't get to say hi! I got on stage briefly to thank the organiser, but that was before the last session and I think you were gone by then? The talks were densely packed with information. I certainly needed the transcripts to unravel them all properly.

SUPER! Thanks for the notice Janet. The Education Select Committee received the Politics in Education summaries & transcripts only 2 weeks ago and one of the key calls to action is to open wide a national conversation on education; they've heard it! They've made a forum and everything- I'm so happy!

Of course, the Summit won't have been the only thing that's prompted this, there's a wave going on... still, does good to celebrate now and then :-)

I hope this enquiry receives more submissions than any other in UK history. That would be a great start to 2016.

I've updated the Politics in Education Summaries page today. If any LSN folk are interested in these movements, you'll love the Politics in Education Summit summaries. All available here: http://leahkstewart.com/politicsineducation/
