There is a serious conflict of interest here. I agree with the NASUWT: the head of OFSTED needs to be impartial. How can we trust the judgement of someone who has a vested interest in the expansion of Academies and supports the establishment of free schools?

I think what it will mean is that the school inspectorate will obviously be more favourably disposed towards Academies and Free Schools; the message won't even have to be disseminated amongst the ranks, the inspectors will know that if they want to go up the career ladder, they'll do jolly well by praising Academies and Free Schools, and turning their firepower on LA schools. This is obviously Gove's intention. He's clearly worried that with an impartial head of Ofsted, there might be some unfavourable reports about Academies and Free Schools -- something he could do without.

Is anyone surprised?

Baroness Morgan was warned about her behaviour by the Lords standards watchdog in 2010: "Lady Morgan's understanding of the [peer’s] code of conduct was imperfect.
"She was wrong to suggest that she could speak in debates related to her clients' interests if she had been providing those clients with parliamentary advice; and wrong to suggest that she could in any circumstances approach ministers, special advisers or civil servants for anything other than information.

"All members should have a better understanding of the rules than that which Lady Morgan exhibited."

Let’s hope Baroness Morgan has learned her lesson and not just with regard to OFSTED. She is a member of the advisory board of Lloyds Pharmacy Limited and director of Southern Cross Healthcare at a time when the Government is planning major NHS restructuring. This Financial Times article makes it clear that Southern Cross Healthcare sees an opportunity in the NHS reforms: “the government has been receptive to the idea of outsourcing some traditional NHS responsibilities to the likes of Southern Cross”.

ARK is linked to the Dutroux Scandal, and Sally Morgan's husband John Lyons is linked to Liberty (NCCL), an affiliate of PIE (Paedophile Information Network).
