Trustees of Langdale Free School, Blackpool, formerly a private school which became state-funded in 2013, have been criticised by the Education and Funding Skills Authority (ESFA) for holding a board meeting in Ibiza, Schools Week reports. Although the flight costs were paid for by Montague Place which provides corporate services to Langdale, ESFA said the related-party transaction had not been declared.
ESFA warned there were ‘serious concerns’ about Langdale’s long-term viability. Trustees had ‘failed to exercise effective control over its financial position.’
Schools Week says Mark Peters, chair of Montague Place, disputes ESFA’s findings and has pledged ‘to take action against the ESFA’.
