Are our teenage girls unhappier than they were a year ago?

I appeared on Woman's Hour talking about a report issued by Demos showing that teenage girls are unhappier than they were a year ago. The report seems fairly exhaustive, looking at a large cross section of girls. I said that it appeared to have some substance and backed up what I've seen in the classroom: teenage girls seem to have been affected disproportionately, compared with boys, by the recession: feeling that they need to work weekends to get money; succeed beyond expectations in exams; and worrying about their futures.
