We are what we are because of our LA

Smithy Street is an inner city primary school which is deemed by Ofsted to be outstanding... and yes, that is due in part to fantastic pupils, dedicated teachers, supportive parents, focused governors and all of this is underpinned by a great LA. They are there when we need the support - we did our Ofsted with an Acting HT as ours was on sick leave - they held our hands, challenged us, let us get away with nothing and that is why we and they are outstanding.

Back in the 1990s they devolved funding to us so that we could buy in the SLAs that we needed and that trust means we choose what we need when we need it.

Frankly we do not need free schools or academies for outstanding schools but we do need outstanding LAs like Tower Hamlets and that is why we voted not to seek to become an academy.
