The best community schools will never be given a fair judgement under this current system.

It is becoming increasingly impossible for excellent community schools to be judged fairly under this current system. Yes we need a fair admissions system, but we need to move away from this narrow academic way of measuring what makes a school good. I work in a school that is a seamless part of it's local community with a superb Head Teacher but is currently under a cosh because of our refusal to dump children on the scrapheap before they even reach the age of eleven, just because they might not hit an arbitrary target. We all have huge challenges ahead of us but we won't be able to meet them by discarding excellent people and replacing them with bureaucrats who have no feel for that community. Every school needs to feel secure enough to be able to engage in an honest dialogue with it's community about the way ahead without the fear of arbitrary and discriminatory actions being imposed on it by local or central government.

Dave
I am a teacher and parent and have been involved in an active campaign against our local schools seeking academy status, with some degree of success. Do get in contact if you want any help in doing the same

Sarah

Thanks for getting in touch I would very much like to tap into your experience, I am involved in the community in two ways as a family liaison officer in the school working with families, also chair of local community arts group for the community around the school. Any advice, strategies to help us through this gratefully received. I am happy to put my head above the parapet but not sure of best way forward.

Thanks

Dave
