Has school choice ever been a source of conflict in your family?

About a decade or so ago this issue seemed to be the main reason for the breakdown in a Labour MP's relationship, which seems a bit drastic. Fortunately, my wife fell in with my wishes to educate our children at the local comprehensive, (the decision with primary school wasn't terribly difficult). I should point out that this was an exception to the family rule.

I do know of one couple who had an excellent local village primary school, but the mother moved house to send the kids private which resulted in her husband having a longer commute into work.

Anyone know people where school preferences becomes a very divisive problem in households?

Since Toby has already kindly mentioned my books, I feel on a roll now: yes, I do know about this. I talked about it in my book Parent Power; I interview a couple who had a terrible time arguing over this issue. They subsequently got divorced! It's one of those make or break issues.

I have a funny feeling that wasn't the end of the story with this family and that one or all of their sons ended up in a local comprehensive where they did well.
