We must insist upon great teaching and tough love in all our local schools

I think it's time we started insisting that EVERY CHILD has the best teaching possible in ALL our schools.

How are we going to do this? We need to make sure our teachers are rigorously trained and schools insist that all teachers reflect upon what they're doing in the classroom. This means teachers should be listening to pupil feedback, using active learning techniques, using tests and assessments to judge where pupils are at, and where they need to go.

Teachers TV are producing some great videos on what makes good teachers. Here's the latest:http://www.teachers.tv/videos/bayley-on-behaviour-establishing-the-ground-rules-tough-love-the-return#utm_source=secondary-weekly&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=secondary-update-25-10-10

Here's a teacher, a former award winner, insisting upon high standards of behaviour, but also active learning techniques: loads of group work, loads of debating, loads engagement from the pupil. Every local school needs to insist upon this. Many schools are doing this, but we need a 100 per cent focus upon great teaching in all schools.
