Local school for local families
Our school. Calder, is a fantastic comprehensive. It is the ‘local school for local families’, one of many in the area, but is likely to lose out on BSF. It’s been patched up for years – I was a governor there till recently. Nevertheless we still managed to raise funds to create wonderful new theatre, named after our (only) local celeb, Ted Hughes. The impact on school and community has been fantastic.
One son still doing final year in VI form, the other left last summer with fantastic A level grades and is now at Royal Holloway. So many who sent their kids elsewhere – especially to selective sixth form college in Huddersfield some distance away – live to regret it.
