It is vital that parents support local, state schools

As a parent of three children and as a teacher I feel it is vitally important that parents (especially well educated ones) support local, state schools. There is no need for academies or so-called free schools; all schools need to be funded properly and have access to the wide range of expertise available via the LEA.

Children who are supported at home, with parents who respect and value our fantastic state education system, will do well at school. It is good for children to mix with others from different socio-economic and/or ethnic backgrounds; they then experience diversity from the earliest age which helps them to become well-rounded tolerant citizens.
