I want my children to have a good education, and for all other children to have the same

I think a fair, just and happy society provides good schools for everyone, not just those who shout loudest or have the money to make it happen.

My son is about to go into year 3 at the local primary school, Westover Primary in Portsmouth.  My daughter will go into Reception in September. It's a community school of roughly 320 pupils in a working class area of the city.  It's not the wealthiest area, nor is it the most deprived. There are many things about this government which scare me but nothing has incensed and galvanised me more than these atrocious ideas about 'freedom and choice'.  I don't want freedom and choice.  I want my children to have a good education, and for all other children to be able to have the same good education.  These free schools and academies will ensure that only the advantaged or those with parents who are able be involved will have access to a decent education.  These ministers from privileged backgrounds are completely removed from most people's reality.
